The DreamOval Foundation has closed the application call for the Women Educators in Internet and Technology (WEITech) program. The response was overwhelming, with over 1,500 applications received from aspiring and unemployed female educators.

WEITech, a flagship digital empowerment initiative by DreamOval Foundation, is designed to bridge the digital skills gap for female teachers and prepare them for emerging opportunities in Ghana’s growing digital learning ecosystem. The program aims to provide women with practical training in digital literacy, educational technology, and online content creation to enhance their employability and support them in contributing meaningfully to 21st-century teaching.

The application window, which opened in February 2024, called on passionate unemployed or graduate female educators ready to pivot their teaching experience into the digital space. Although the application was open to only unemployed female educators in the Greater Accra Region, applicants spanned all 16 regions of Ghana and some countries in West Africa, representing a diverse range of teaching backgrounds, academic disciplines, and personal stories. Each application told a powerful narrative of hope, ambition, and a desire to lead change through education and technology.

“The response has been incredible. We knew there was a need, but seeing over 1,500 women take this bold step toward digital upskilling is both humbling and inspiring,” said Araba Amuasi, STEM Lead of DreamOval Foundation.

Applicants went through a multi-stage selection process, including an online application review and a standardized digital aptitude test, which assessed their computer literacy, problem-solving, and digital readiness.

The screening process was both rigorous and inclusive, ensuring that applicants were not only qualified but also enthusiastic and open to growth in the ever-evolving education technology landscape. Following the test, shortlisted candidates were notified via email and SMS and will be considered for placement in future WEITech cohorts based on performance.

The next phase of the program will see the Foundation finalize the remaining cohort slots and communicate with selected candidates regarding timelines and onboarding for Cohorts 2 and 3.

The DreamOval Foundation expresses its appreciation to every female educator who took the time to apply, test, and share their stories with us. The enthusiasm demonstrated confirms that there is a great need and desire for such capacity-building programs within the education sector.
